Scotiabank has pledged to donate $1M to CHU Sainte-Justine to help meet the basic and special needs of families experiencing vulnerability, with support adapted to the unique reality of each child and their condition.
A new fund provides a safety net, thanks to Scotiabank
Illness can lead to substantial vulnerability—social, economic, and psychological. The CHU Sainte-Justine’s teams have observed a significant increase in financial hardship in recent years. For a wide range of reasons, more and more families find themselves in a precarious situation and need support. Among contributing factors: 60% of the patients treated at Sainte-Justine hail from outside the Greater Montreal Area, including outlying regions. As such, their families must travel great distances, adding to their financial burden.
With Scotiabank’s support, a new fund will be put in place to assist families in difficulty. In addition to making it easier to access certain basic items like diapers, clothing and personal care products, the fund will help meet each family’s specific needs, such as access to legal support, specialized equipment and paratransit for their child.
