The CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation’s identity redesign is much more than a new image, a new logo and a new web platform; it’s a lever, a powerful lever that allows us to continue to affirm loud and clear the direct impact of philanthropy in the lives of thousands of children and families. And it hints at a future of infinite possibilities.
Maud Cohen, why did you choose to renew the image of the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation at this time?
I would say, first and foremost, out of a sense of responsibility. We’ve just wrapped up Healing More Better, the largest major campaign in our history, and we also inaugurated brand new, state-of-the-art buildings. More than ever before, these unique opportunities have set our health care, research and teaching teams on a path towards excellence. And as a foundation, it is our duty to keep pace with this new reality and to align ourselves with the shift towards modernization that has been taking place at the CHU Sainte-Justine.

This is a pivotal moment in the history of CHU Sainte-Justine.
Very much so. And the opportunities for innovation have never been greater. Thanks to the support of the donors of the CHU Sainte-Justine Foundation, we have already begun to inaugurate integrated care, teaching and research platforms that will have a transformative impact on the lives of Sainte-Justine’s families. We must contribute to these advances by creating a bridge between the CHU Sainte-Justine and the community. That’s why it is essential that we have the best tools to pursue and increase our support for mothers and children.
In concrete terms, how is this transformation taking place?
The identity makeover includes a new logo, a new digital platform and new communication tools. Added to this, an internal organizational transformation is under way, which will allow us to maximize our philanthropic impact, get closer to our donors and continue to surpass ourselves each day to support and promote the CHU Sainte-Justine.
It must be said that the new image is a continuity of the previous one.
Absolutely. Our old logo was created in 1987, the year the Foundation was created. It has served us very well, so it was only natural that we revamp it without altering it completely. This time, however, we wanted to be more inclusive. The new logo therefore continues to portray the adult/child duo—symbolizing a mother and child, our institution’s two clienteles—but this can now also represent a child and a father, companion, caregiver or donor, all central and indispensable figures in our mission. We paid special care in giving them the place they deserve. There’s an expression that says, “It takes a village to heal a child.” In philanthropy, this echoes in our work every day.
What challenges lie ahead for the CHU Sainte-Justine?
Philanthropy plays an important role in supporting the great needs imposed by the advances of our time. For example, we are in the genomic era. It is now becoming increasingly possible to offer patients personalized treatments that are less invasive and have less serious consequences for their future health and development. We also have many more tools than before to improve our understanding of a number of rare diseases. However, these major innovations are costly, and if Sainte-Justine’s teams were to rely solely on public funds for support, they wouldn’t be able to remain at the forefront of innovation. As a foundation, our challenge is therefore to maintain a pace that gives our hospital centre the means to achieve its greatest ambitions for patient health, while rethinking the future in a responsible and rigorous manner.

Community support is therefore more essential than ever.
It is, and we make a point of always better responding to the community’s needs and expectations. We’re in step with the renewal that is occurring around us. We’re listening carefully and putting all our creativity to work to make sure the entire community knows how much its contribution, whatever the amount, has a transformative impact on the lives of Sainte-Justine’s mothers and children. So that together we can continue to reinvent ourselves and move even further forward.
