When Lyette Soucy was just a baby, she was an inpatient at Sainte-Justine for nearly three months, an experience that profoundly shaped who she has become. To honour the hospital and the dedicated professionals who gave her a healthy start in life, Lyette decided to make a bequest to the Foundation.
Lyette is a firm believer in the importance of having a positive impact on the world, in whatever way you can. She regularly gives to several Quebec charities. “You don’t need to be super rich to make a difference. Every donation counts. Every donation is a deliberate choice to help your community.”
Sainte-Justine holds a special place in her heart. Not only is it where she received the care she needed as a baby, but it’s also where several people she knows work or volunteer. “I’ve always been touched by how committed the people I’ve met at Sainte-Justine are. They give their all, every single day, for children they don’t even know. I really admire them for that.”
Sainte-Justine is much more than a hospital for Lyette. It’s a beacon of excellence that is respected the world over and home to an elite group of researchers. It’s a place where medical breakthroughs are made and change lives for the better. It’s where profoundly human experiences happen every day.
By making a legacy gift in her will, Lyette hopes to make a mark on the future, so that children can dream big and live healthy and fulfilling lives for generations to come.
I didn’t have children of my own. Giving back to Sainte-Justine is my way of finding meaning in life, by bringing hope and comfort to the smallest among us.
Supporting the village that raises our children
Parents sometimes need extra help, and when they do, being able to turn to a network of professionals is critical. At Sainte-Justine, the support families receive is precious, as is the comfort staff provides to young patients during long hospital stays or when parents must step away. Families can be sure that they and their child are in the best possible hands.
“Children need a tight-knit community around them. My donation is a way to support this community, pass on my values, and bring people together to help one another,” says Lyette.
She hopes that her donation inspires others to do the same. “We have to support the institutions we care about,” she says. “They are the ones pushing science forward and changing lives. They are our future!”
